The Ultimate Skincare Routine for Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you know the struggle: that tight feeling after cleansing, flaky patches that show through makeup, and the constant search for products that actually hydrate without feeling greasy.

After years of trial and error (and way too much money spent on products that didn't work), I've finally cracked the code for keeping dry skin happy, healthy, and glowing.

Morning Routine

Step 1: Gentle Cream Cleanser

Skip the foaming cleansers! They strip your skin of natural oils. Instead, reach for a creamy, non-foaming cleanser like:
  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (£12.50 at Boots)

  • La Roche-Posay Toleriane Caring Wash (£13.50 at Look Fantastic)
  • Step 2: Hydrating Toner

While your skin is still damp, apply a hydrating toner to prep your skin for the next steps:
  • Paula's Choice Enriched Calming Toner (£24 at Cult Beauty)

  • Klairs Supple Preparation Toner (£21 at Beauty Bay)
  • Step 3: Hyaluronic Acid Serum

This is your hydration hero! Apply to damp skin for maximum absorption:
  • The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (£6.20 at Superdrug)

  • Vichy Minéral 89 (£27 at Boots)
  • Step 4: Rich Moisturiser

Lock in all that hydration with a rich, nourishing moisturiser:
  • Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream (£68 at Cult Beauty)

  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream (£10.49 at Superdrug) - great budget option!
  • Step 5: SPF (Non-negotiable!)

Yes, even dry skin needs SPF. Look for hydrating formulas:
  • Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen (£34 at Space NK)

  • La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 (£18 at Boots)
  • Evening Routine

    Step 1: Double Cleanse

Start with an oil cleanser to remove makeup and SPF, then follow with your cream cleanser:
  • Clinique Take The Day Off Balm (£28 at Boots)

  • The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm (£12.99 at Cult Beauty)
  • Step 2: Treatment (2-3x per week)

Gentle exfoliation helps dry skin absorb products better:
  • Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel (£34 at Cult Beauty)

  • The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA (£6.30 at Superdrug)
  • Step 3: Face Oil

Add a few drops of nourishing oil before or mixed with your moisturiser:
  • The Body Shop Rosehip Oil (£14.50 at Superdrug)

  • Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant Oil (£72 at Space NK)
  • Step 4: Night Cream or Sleeping Mask

Go thick and rich at night - your skin will thank you:
  • Laneige Water Sleeping Mask (£32 at Cult Beauty)

  • Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream (£89 at Space NK)
  • Pro Tips

  • Apply products to damp skin - this helps seal in extra moisture

  • Use a humidifier at night, especially in winter

  • Avoid hot water - lukewarm is best for cleansing

  • Drink plenty of water - hydration starts from within!
